Father’s Day Ice Cream Sundae

The grand finale of my Father’s Day menu starring all things bourbon, bacon and beer is this ice cream sundae topped with the brown sugar and bourbon glazed bacon and the whiskey caramel sauce.  I started with just good old French Vanilla ice cream….piled high in the bowl. Then I sprinkled the top with a bit of crumbled bacon and a big old piece on the side for good measure. From there I  added a little bit of pizzelle – which is just an Italian wafer- to the sundae to give it more texture.  You could use a waffle cone or other favorite cookie instead.  Then drizzle with a good amount of that homemade whiskey caramel sauce.  From there it’s up to you! You can keep it simple or you can pile on all of Dad’s favorite topping. Serving a crowd? make an ice cream bar and serve an array of toppings on the side.  Maraschino cherries, gummy bears, chocolate sauce….anything goes….

As an added touch to the presentation that also doubles as a nice Father’s day gift is the packaged homemade caramel sauce, a little glass jar of the bourbon whiskey, and a bottle of Dad’s favorite beer with the label peeled off and replaced with a sticker that says #1 Dad.  I’m sure you can personalize this little gift basket even more but these are some ideas to start with.  I found these jars at HomeGoods but other department stores also carry similar jars and bottles.
